Introduction: Basic issues of religious difference need
clarification in the relationship of the two dominant world religions.
Considering that there are some 2 Billion Christians (2,000,000,000) and some
1.2 Billion Muslims (1,200,000,000) within a global population of 6 Billion Four
Hundred Million (6,400,000,000) it would seem prudent to get on with open
conversation about the realities of the situation. Being nice people is not
adequate. Nice people tend to avoid troublesome historical precedents and
theological complexities. This page is a contribution to the
dialogue. Paying attention to world news both complicates and informs the
process. The use of media to gain political ends is practiced by most everyone.
Reading widely with a questioning mind is probably the best approach.
The art of conversation and discussion between Christians and Muslims is
a learned skill. To be able to clearly state ones own position and then listen
intently to the other person state his/her position is a necessity. The next requirement
is to learn what is happening in the other person and their cultural training so
that one can figure out what words and concepts will actually transmit the
meaning that the speaker intends. Face to face personal conversation adds the
personal factor so necessary for religious dialogue. If possible an agreement
should be reached that arguments of verbal attacks are strictly off limits.
A work in progress: Section by section the pages will be developed. There is no limit time frams.
